Researchers at the Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences investigated the use of topical olive oil for helping to heal diabetic foot ulcers. Their study, reported on in the Journal of Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders in April 2015, included 34 diabetics diagnosed with foot ulcers. Half the Type 2 diabetics were randomly assigned to receive routine care only, and the other half were assigned to receive topical olive oil as well as routine care. After 4 weeks of treatment, the ulcers being treated with olive oil were smaller in depth and diameter than those treated with routine care only.
